Kratom is fairly new product here in the US and, just like everything else we are unsure of, people come up with reasons to dislike it. People tend to fear what they don’t know which leads to assumptions and accusations about beneficial products. Unfortunately Kratom does lie in this category which is why it is so important to know what is true and what is not.
One common myth is that Kratom is a synthetic drug; this could not be further from the truth. There is no chemical processing or synthesis involved. Kratom is an all-natural plant that is indigenous to tropical lands of Indonesia. Kratom’s beneficial power comes naturally from organic alkaloids that are a part of the leaf’s make-up. There also is no refinement process. Consumers consume the leaf orally, either through powder, capsule or tea form. The plant is not altered in anyway by heat or smoke.
Second is the assumption that because Kratom is illegal in certain states and countries that there is hard proof that it is dangerous. Beginning with Indonesia, Kratom was originally banned as a precaution taken against the opium trade. Indonesia felt the repercussions of Kratom’s benefits overtaking their beloved opium trade and sought to make it illegal so as to gain revenue from the opium. Here in 2 US states, Kratom was banned due to the most common issue: ignorance. Government officials did not have enough information about Kratom and therefore sought to take protection against what they didn’t know.
There is an ongoing fight with the legality of Kratom and it is important to stay in the know. There are many other myths to bust but these two are the most important and most dangerous. Keep in mind these misconceptions when dealing with Kratom and let Kratom speak for itself.
